IDEAS OF HOME

‘Since May, thanks to funding from Arts Council England, we have been curating Ideas of Home, an online project that enabled us to continue our programme of significant cultural engagement during lockdown.

This is a project that assesses how ideas of ‘home’ have shifted in 2020 during
the global pandemic, national lockdowns and the ‘new normal’ rules of social interaction. We have been inviting creative responses to people’s lived experience this year, asking how the threat of the pandemic and the realities of life under lockdown and beyond have affected people’s notions of what constitutes ‘home’.
We want people to experiment and be creative as a means of better making sense of their world, and are offering opportunities to share and express this creativity. Inputs can be in any form, from formal artworks across the disciplines, to photographs of objects or artefacts, to written reflections and poetry, animations and gifs, audio and video diaries. Our online gallery of contributions is here

'Factory 1933' series in 'New Topographies'

In ‘New Topographies’ artists explore how we connect emotionally with landscape asking us to question the very nature of beauty and to review our environment with a fresh perspective. The exhibition contrasts the temporality of urban landscape with the ageless grandeur of mountains and wilderness.

Julian Bovis | Mandy Payne | Olga Woszczyna
Andrew MacIntosh | Jen Orpin | Josie Jenkins

We are excited to announce that this exhibition will include a bespoke site specific piece created by Julian Bovis. Concentrating on the themes of history and regeneration, Julian’s panorama of Castlefield Basin captures the changing mood of the area as the city centre high rise towers slowly denvelop their surroundings.

MoMA | PopRally Abstract Currents

Screen Shot 2019-04-30 at 19.40.55.jpg
poprally.jpg

7th April 2013 20:30 - 23:30

Extract from ‘Meteoria’ in Abstract Currents

In conjunction with the exhibitions Inventing Abstraction, 1910–1925 and Abstract Generation: Now in Print, the PopRally committee has been collecting hundreds of submissions of one-minute abstract videos created by the public. These video minutes open a broad window into the ways that abstraction endlessly inspires artists, designers, and anyone observing the peripheries of their own daily life. The captured imagery, ranging from the bizarre to the contemplative, is made from small observations in nature, flowing psychedelic mutations, and digitally imagined spaces.

Join us for a special party and see all of the submitted videos displayed on various screens and projections in MoMA's lobby and on the Marron Atrium walls. Dream-pop queen Tamaryn will DJ the event, providing a hypnotic soundtrack to the collectively built abstract videoscape.
